Anita
PPS: Can you tell us about yourself?
ANITA: I’m Anita. I’m from Sicily, and I’m proud of it. I’ve always been into music. I don’t really like movies because I can’t focus on them. I guess what I’m most interested in is meeting new people.
PPS: Music definitely facilitates connections. How does fashion factor into your lifestyle and self-expression?
ANITA: I think it plays a big role. When I was a teenager, I was fascinated by stylish figures like Tyler The Creator. I admire people who wear what they want because it shows self-expression.
PPS: How was growing up in Sicily?
ANITA: I often felt like a weirdo. I loved being different from the more basic styles around me. When I go back to my hometown, people still see me as the weirdo, and I embrace that!
PPS: How long have you lived in Milan?
ANITA: It’s been six years now. I moved here to study and to get away from Sicily. Mainly the latter.
PPS: What did you study?
ANITA: I studied economics. It’s a bit of a joke, but I really do like numbers! I’m good at it.
PPS: Do you feel like these interests such as music, meeting people and mathematics correlate to your work?
ANITA: Honestly, I prefer not to define myself by my work.
PPS: Do you feel nostalgic about fashion or excited about its future?
ANITA: I’m excited! I believe the new generation is visionary and looks toward the future. I don't like when people follow trends blindly.
PPS: Are there any creatives or designers you admire at the moment?
ANITA: Yes, I liked the latest Rave Review collection, I feel like they have a lot of substance. I also like (di)vision.
PPS: When you shop for yourself, do you follow your instincts or do you research first
ANITA: It depends. In markets, I go by instinct. But at the change of seasons, I think about the character I want to embody in the coming months.
PPS: Do you think fashion has the power to shape culture?
ANITA: Absolutely! But I believe society shapes fashion too. Nowadays, it’s harder to find genuine subcultures.
PPS: Do you think subcultures still exist?
ANITA: I hope so! There are still smaller groups like in Italy we have “maranzas”. But some aesthetics feel less authentic.
PPS: What would you say is your signature look?
ANITA: I always wear my red sunglasses and a cap. I’ve always worn hats.
PPS: If you could influence one thing about the world of fashion or culture, what would it be?
ANITA: I work in fashion myself and I work with big brands that definitely have resources. I would like fashion to be more open and equitable. People in the industry should be paid fairly, and there should be more opportunities for talented individuals that are not necessarily well-connected.
PPS: What’s next for you? What are you manifesting at the moment?
ANITA: I have a lot of hope for the future now, and I’m really happy with where I am. I feel content.
PPS: That’s wonderful to hear! Thank you so much, Anita.
ANITA: Thank you! I enjoyed this conversation.
